
As well as an engaging way to facilitate thinking through hands, improvisatory model making is valuable in fostering groupwork, especially involving participants from different backgrounds.
As evidenced in my workshops in Nanjing and Sheffield, a group model offers a number of advantages:
⁃ acting as an ice breaker between participants collaborating first time
⁃ Mediating the linguistic and disciplinary barriers as a physical way to align ideas
⁃ Giving each group member the agency over a part of a collaborative project
⁃ Being a tool for group presentations and discussions
