University of Sheffield’s MAUD (Masters in Architecture and Urban design) students have been working with local community partners to develop alternative development visions for several suburban areas. The students are developing urban scenarios of their projects to help community partners imagine alternative energy and food system transitions in their neighbourhoods.
The task for the workshop was to develop provocative and inspiring future visions, whilst also allowing for participatory input from community partners the students are working with. Following the workshop, the participants will continue to developing the models and using them as part of their design thinking.
Some of the works conceptualised the wider urban context, whilst others zoomed into the individual key structures, such as an observatory or a mobile booth. Certain projects experimented with the site’s topography, whereas others conceptualised the linear routes along the respective neighbourhoods.
Some of the students had no prior model making experience.
