On 14.11.23 I ran a workshop for nine A-Level art pupils. During the exercise the pupils were intuitively making conceptual objects to fulfill the architectural part of their A-level curriculum. Each participant brought along a photo of a place they like and physically modelled their reaction to it. Places included riverside lawns, museum exhibition spaces, abandoned folly towers and garden sheds. Materials, primarily salvaged from recycling bins, included fabric, recycled timber, mild steel, cork, Perspex. Whereas university architecture students tend to hesitate and spend much time preparing before making, the art pupils were taking on the risk in getting stuck in before the briefing presentation was even finished.
