Unfolded Exquisite Corpse pinned to a Garden Shed

During a recent garden party in Colchester, Essex, the invitees were asked to contribute to a collective painting. At the different points of the event, the participants approached the large format sheet, divided into 16 segments and made use of the acrylic paints to create their input. The images below illustrate the progression of the piece and the final result, identifying a variety of approaches. Some of the participants chose to continue the theme and colour scheme of the adjacent segment, whilst others chose to juxtapose a radically different piece next to someone else’s work, adding a deconstructivist dimension. One participant chose to make their contribution far from the other drawn pieces, ‘underground’ as the artist himself suggested. Enjoyment and obsession with geese were the recurring trends of the process, though some guests doubted their artistic activities and hesitated joining.
