During some of my placement period at KTH Stockholm I stayed at 43 Drottning Kristinas väg, which is a notable building for a student accommodation. It is made up of studios, each one with its own glazed balcony.

At the top of the block there is an office space, ‘the cloud’ as KTH architecture students call it. Once, one of the year groups used to have their studio space there. Now it occupied by Viable Cities, an organisation focusing on policies to achieve carbon-neutral cities by 2030.
Viable Cities invited me for a tour of the office space, which enjoys stunning views over the swedish capital, yet suffers from an architectural experiment.

On a clear and sunny spring day, the space was very steamy, whilst light coming from all directions was destructive and needed constant mitigation with blinds. As the employees told me, the space also gets very cold in the winter. Possibly not a good example of how to achieve a climate-neutral city!
