Willen House

As the world was coming out of Covid and my part time PhD was commencing, I was part of the TP Bennett team working on the refurbishment of Willen House, a tired but noteworthy example of 1930s art-deco, tucked away new Old Street in Central London. Because the building historically housed specialists working on keys, our team’s internal presentations featured ‘key worker’ puns as a node to one of pandemic’s buzz words. The refurbishment included internal reconfigurations, facade uplift, rear extensions, and a new top storey.

I was predominately involved in the earlier stages of the proposal, working on the visuals and presentation materials, as well as coordination with consultants. Although Willen House did house students before the refurbishment, it was a challenge to space-plan the rooms around the stairs and lift cores.
