North point is one of the less affluent areas of Hong Kong Island. It has a large population of East Chinese migrants, who speak the Shanghai dialect. North Point’s waterfront area is underused due a number of different level highway flyovers obstructing the physical and visual connection between Victoria harbour and the adjacent streets, filled with fish markets, authority offices, residential towers and neglected cultural venues (such as the state theatre).
