Today I went to make a thorough survey of Prince Ojupon’s site. Partially sandfilled from the neighbouring dredging site (for N25,000/truck = £54) the site is a fluid environment with new land being added and buildings (mainly housing being constructed).
I was earlier concerned about the need to measure the existing slope, however in Lekki, which is initially a swamp, the topography and land levels are determined by the occupier, not nature. Besides, I know the typical land heights (usually 1-1.5 m above lagoon) from Dr Obiefuna’s paper. The dimensions of the sites are visible from the drawings Prince passed me during the previous vist, however the dimensions along the lagoon can be determined by the occupier too – since this land is a sandfilled swamp anyway.
