Built before indépendance, currently a disfunctional 140 room hotel with a large site near Oyingbo market and lagos terminus station, in the colonial planning area (1920s). I would need an additional permission to access the inside.
Urban context
The mainland hotel finds itself amongst the first planned suburbs of historic Lagos built during the colonial time. According to D. Lamoureux Yaba and Ebute Metta were based the on the Asian, rather than East African models for British colonial cities, whereby the Europeans and the Africans were given given the environment to ‘mix and mingle’ (to paraphrase M. Peil) in the Lagosian interpretation of the Garden City with commuters traveling daily across the newly rebuilt Carter Bridge to work on the island.
