A variety of water entities under the common name of Lagoon, which I have previously been studying to east of historic city centre, also extends all the way to the Benin republic border to the west, meandering around dozens of islands and accommodating resource extraction, fishing, tourism (for the adventurous) and various other activities.

‘Fish farms’ Sticks in the water on the image Below: fishermen install sticks loosely wrapped with plastic bags below the water level. Algae begin to live within the plastic debris and fish start to live around the sticks feeding on algae. The fishermen then surround the area with a net, creating a contained area for the fish to grow in numbers and be easily caught.
