Lagos New Towns Development Authority

(and Land Registry Department)
Almost all current developments of the Lekki corridor are residential Estates. Yesterday I  visited Lagos NTDA to discuss the current strategy for the overall masterplan development, and ontain details on some particular current projects.

The discussion reinforced some of my earlier thoughts about Lekki corridor development and also revealed additional information. Besides some of the discovered information would be later useful for the Implementation essay.  – only residential developments are currently in progress. Some are undertaken by the NTDA (always estates with public access) and some by private/corporate developers who purchased the land (normally to become gated estates)

– Development land wraps around existing settlements: towns such as Ajah or Eputu Town, bungalow agglomerations and excised villages – areas claimed by their indigenous families. Boundaries of the latter land are negotiated between the family and the land registry department

– Planning applications for individual buildings are submitted via a local (Lekki-based) town planning office to the Physical Planning department at the GRA in Ikeja, whilst larger developments are reviewed at the Physical Planning Dept in Alausa, Block 15, Ikeja. Depending on the scope of my project I will need to visit one or both of these establishments at a later stage

– The main officer I spoke to, Mr Anfooshi agreed with Unilag Prof Igwe

– One of the officers has kindly agreed to organise a trip for me to see some of the new estates.

Based on the recently discovered information I have began a more detailed  site search. The map below will illustrate the site selection process. It is also displayed on this page: https://mshtanov.wordpress.com/site/
