Interview with Trevоr Ward, W Hospitality group

First meeting today was with Trevor Ward who has been conducting research and advice in West African hospitality for the last twenty years. To summarize the interview (which I documented) the prospect of new hotel opening in Nigeria is tough due to a series of current economic and political factors. Trevor sees more opportunities in such business in Ghana, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire, however Lagos is a special case which is likely to continue growing economically. Trevor mentioned several issues regarding my hotel phasing idea and was interested in the staff training facility alongside the hotel, for which he gave me a precedent. There is also a contact at the only existing local staff training facility, whom I will reach.

For the implementation essay he gave me a couple of contacts to advise on land ownership and possible specific project locations.
In general, there is much academic information on the involvement of hotels in the West African cities, according to Mr Ward.
